Known as one of Portugal's finest sand strips, Guincho beach is situated near the picturesque town of Cascais and is a windsurfer's paradise.

Guincho Beach is on Portugal's Estoril Coast, five km from the former fishing village of Cascais on the west side of Portugal.

This popular beach lies at the foot of the Sintra hills, facing the Atlantic and is journeyed to by bus or train from Lisbon [or Sintra] to Cascais, which takes around 45 minutes.

Recognised as one of the most beautiful beaches around the Lisboa region, Guincho is reputed to be one of the best places for windsurfing in Europe - due to the area's strong winds and powerful waves. It has played host to windsurfing world championships in the past.

When the wind dies down, the sea becomes ideal for surfing and kitesurfing, but swimmers may find the choppy waves sometimes a little too agitated to navigate.

During the peak season in the hot summer months, the beach is flooded with locals and tourists, topping up their tans until the rays dip behind the Sintra hills, creating an amazing sunset.

The fine golden sand blends subtly with the pine trees that line the beach. Nearby there are caverns, such as the famous Boca do Inferno (Hell's Mouth), which is a popular tourist attraction.
